10 YEARS AGO OCT. 8, 2009 Homecoming candidates for King & Queen are: Taylor Stickfort, Damon Bolt, Clint Dinsdale, Eric Peters, and Evan Stoakes. Queen candidates are Rebekah Zimmerman, Erin Corwin, Corissa Rowe, Kristine Volkens, Sammi Palmer & Maria Espinoz. G-R school Board members are Deb Cooley, Beth Miller, Darin King, Mike Beardon, Rick Lockhart, Doug Rowe & Matt Wyatt. Mr. & Mrs. Don Rhoades will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. Class of 1940 celebrated their 69th class reunion on Sept 26 at the Shack in Morrison. Claus Wrage, Las Vegas, NV. died Sept. 11. 20 YEARS AGO OCT. 7. 1999 Sheila Smith & Shane Davis are parents of a son born Sept. 29. Sharon Wambold is recipient of the”Thanks Badge” for recognition in the Girl Scouts. Donald Albert, 49, Tama, died of a sudden illness at Covenent Medical Center. Earl Plaehn, 80, died Sept. 20 at Iowa Vets Home Jean Ellis, 90, Lincoln, died Sept. 22 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Dr. Norman Thede is retiring as a Doctor in Britt after being in practice for 36 years. Irene Tobin celebrated her 90th birthday on Oct. 2. 30 YEARS AGO OCT. 19, 1989 Kara Grupp was the winner of the Fire Prevention Week poster contest. The playground equipment for Elmwood Park reaches its goal of over $6,500. Tracy Johnson & James Jensen were married Sept. 23. Mr. & Mrs. Mike Schick are parents of a daughter born Oct. 8. G-R mixed chorus ordered new robes. Wm. Mitchell, 89. Grundy Center, died Oct. 16 at the Grundy Care Center. 40 YEARS AGO OCT. 20, 1979 Mr. & Mrs. Dave Lovell, Marshalltown, are parents of a daughter born Oct. 18 Mr. & Mrs. Steve Robertson are parents of a daughter born Oct. 23. Sue Greenwood, Cedar Falls, and Randy Eckhoff were married Sept. 8. 50 YEARS AGO OCT. 23, 1969 Cynthia Haren, 21, Grundy Center, was killed in an auto accident just inside the Tama City limits. A 1967 auto accident on Hwy 218 is the basis for a $98,000. damage suit filled on Oct. 17 in Black Hawk Co. District Court. Defendants are Mr. & Mrs. Harry Kruse of Grundy Center.
