10 YEARS AGO SEPT. 3, 2009 A benefit is planned for Chris Cooper on Oct. 5 at the Traer Memorial Building. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in April. Danielle Bicket & Caleb Hamer were married on April 4 in Cedar Falls. Mr. & Mrs. Craig Rickert of Jonesboro, AK are parents of a son born Aug. 23. Paul Robertson, 90, Grundy Center, died August 28 at Allen Hospital. 20 YEARS AGO SEPT. 2, 1999 Mike Schreck, Hudson, was named Reserve Champion Jr. shown during 4-H breeding sheep show at the State Fair. Amanda Wical got 2nd place in showmanship Award for 5th & 6th grade division at the State Fair. Valene Whipps, Dike, won champion purebred derby pig at the State Fair. George Sharp, 77, died August 24 at his home. Walter Reinking, 91, died August 27 at Covenent Medical Center. Patty Maletek & Curt Ballard were married July 24 in Ely, Iowa 30 YEAFRS AGO SEPT. 14, 1989 Paula Peterson was selected to the All State Special Elite team as a softball catcher. Oakleaf Country Club was broke into and nearly $1,000 and some beer was taken. Shirley Mitchell, 72, Reinbeck, died Sept. 10 at home. Andrew Dalziel, 85, Traer, died Sept. 9 at Parkview. Irma Jacobson, 91, Traer, formerly of Reinbeck, died Sept. 6. Nicole Paustain & Dennis Clapp were married August 19 in Gladbrook. Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Sash, Gladbrook will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 24. Mr. & Mrs. John Moore celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sept. 18. 40 YEARS AGO SEPT. 20, 1979 Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Heithoff, Davenport, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Mr. & Mrs. John Ayer are parents of a daughter born Sept.15. Ward French sold his interest in the funeral home to Floyd Hand of Tama.

50 YEARS AGO SEPT. 18, 1969 More than 600 attended the annual Lion’s Club Supper. Ron Enenga, 18, Grundy Center, died Sept. 11 at the Grundy Hospital after a lingering illness Dr. & Mrs. Dean Lampe, Iowa City, are parents of a son born June 6. A certificate of 50 years was presented to Lynn Grantwith on Sept. 10 at a special meeting of the Coin Lodge.
