10 YEARS AGO JULY 23,2009 Kandie Vaughn was awarded unit member of the year in the State of Iowa for the American Legion Auxiliary. Class of ‘54 hold their 50 year class reunion at Oakleaf Country Club. Matt Gillaspie of Piper Jeffrey explains the steps of borrowing money for Reinbeck pre-school. G-R Dollalrs for Scholars host the 12th annual Reinbeck Independence Day 5K run and 2 mile walk event. 20 YEARS AGO JULY 22, 1999 City of Reinbeck population shows an increase in 1998 to 1661 residents. Mr. & Mrs. Tom Emmett will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on July 20. Mr. & Mrs. Darwin Heltbridle will be honored with a card shower for their 35th wedding anniversary on July 24. Minnie Meyer, 91, Grundy Center, died July 13 at Grundy Co. Hospital. LeRoy Everhart, 68, died July 13 at his home. Jean Stout ,56, Oskaloosa, died July 18, A one vehicle accident took the life of Kaye Rippentrop of Cedar Falls, when she was thrown from a vehicle driven by her husband on July 19. 30 YEARS AGO AUGUUST 3, 1989 Beatrice Bryant died July 30 at Parkview Manor. Gary Vogt, 51, Waterloo, died July 30 at his home. Jennie Venenga, 93, Grundy Center, died July 26 in the long term care unit at the Grundy Hospital. Harold Eiklenborg, 66, Dike, died July 26 of an apparent heart attack. Two Hudson men were charged with arson, burglary and criminal mischief by Tama County Sheriff Dept. Mr. & Mrs. David Folkerts, Ottumwa, are parents of a son born August 1. City Council met in a special session to give final approval to an amended city ordnance which provides a new rate structure for garbage collection and requiring the use of Reinbeck garbage bags. Reinbeck Action post 242 presented a check for $250. to Reinbeck Cub Scout Pack and their leaders since the Cub Scouts were founded in Reinbeck. 40 YEARS AGO AUGUST 9, 1979 Reinbeck classes to begin August 23 with 44 teachers and 28 non-teaching personnel. Wendell Storjohann, 58, Gladbrook died at his home. Rev. & Mrs. Clell Hickman will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on August 22. Thassesus “Bud” Hummel, 76, formerly of Morrison, died August 5 following a stroke. Guilette Schwarz, Parkersburg and Curtis Storjohann were married June 22. Oscar Depping, 59, Reinbeck, died July 31 at Sartori Hospital of a heart attack. Edward Halupnik. 60, Traer. died at Schoitz Hospital after a brief illness. 50 YEARS AGO AUGUST 7, 1969 Herman Rickert, 82, died July 31 at Schoitz Hospital. Emma DauSchmidt, 85, died August 1 at Parkview Manor. Mr. & Mrs. James Wyatt are parents of twin daughters born Aug. 1. Mr. & Mrs. Mike Lovell are parents of a daughter born August 5. Jane Creswell & Wm. Weaverling were married Aug 2 at the Presbyterian Ch. in Reinbeck. Darlene Mitchem & Kenneth Draper were married July 26. Catherine Bee, 83, died July 30 at her home in Grundy Center.
