Dear Editor,

What could be done with nearly $500,000.00?

Reinbeck could/should maintain city obligations already in existence such as:

Repair and/or replace all of the cemetery concrete. (Some of this has already turned to rubble).

Replace both the fitness center and cemetery maintenance building roofs. (These will leak very soon).

Replace the pool bath house (Reinbeck has the worst one of any town within 25 miles).

Meet the government mandated water treatment plants' requirements (Due in 2018).

Enhance our EMS equipment (To keep us fully functional).

If any of these city obligations continue to reflect poorly on our town by further neglect, what does this say about our community? Reinbeck has already given the daycare $300,000.00. Let's not spend another $180,000.00 by paying for something that is not a city obligation. The proposed daycare expansion will become part of the school system if completed, not the city's. Let's not fail to hold up our city motto, "The town that does good things better." All of our city entities such as our parks, the Memorial Building, our EMS, our streets, etc. are already the "good things" in Reinbeck and we had better maintain/improve them or they won't be "better." Stop the city's donation to the daycare expansion. Go to the Reinbeck.org site, scroll down to City Council, find your council member's email and tell them to reconsider their vote. They work for you and should be upholding the proper use of your tax dollars for the City of Reinbeck.
